Glastonbury Festival 2008
The Glastonbury Festival has been in the news recently. Michael Eavis has revealed that there will be a radical departure from the normal indie band makeup of the headlines for the 2008 event. Confirmed by daughter and co-organiser Emily, this year will see a prominent 'black' artist taking to the stage, probably for the Saturday night and a major surprise in the line-up for Sunday afternoon. But is Glastonbury trying too hard to do too much when it should be remembering the spirit of the festival? Soon enough we may see a complete split in the event with the traditionalists divorcing themselves completely from the soulless comercialism of a truely great music festival. I have only been twice and I found the whole thing overwhelming, exhausting and utterly fantastic. Yes there are too many people, to many kids, too much drink and drugs, too much mud (of course), but it is still one of the best music events in the world. So watch out indie kids and new-age hippies...the times they are a-changing.
